$3.4M U.S. Simulator Launches at Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, Boosting Safety and Tech

A new, modern simulator worth $3.4 million has been officially launched at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP). This event took place with the participation of the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, Kristina Kvien, who spoke about the positive impact of this technology on Armenia’s nuclear energy safety.

The U.S. Embassy in Armenia shared the news, highlighting the strong partnership between the United States and Armenia in nuclear energy that has lasted for more than 25 years. Ambassador Kvien said the new simulator will help train plant workers and ensure the safe and smooth operation of the nuclear power plant. She pointed out that this advanced American technology marks a new step forward in the ongoing cooperation between the U.S. Department of Energy and the ANPP.

This launch shows how Armenia continues to strengthen its nuclear energy sector by adopting cutting-edge tools and methods. These efforts are important not only for Armenia’s energy independence but also for maintaining safety and reliability at one of the country’s most critical power sources.

In a related development, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin visited the ANPP on May 14. He shared that Russia is ready to offer Armenia different nuclear power options, including large reactors and smaller, modular nuclear units. These small modular reactors are seen as modern and flexible solutions for the country’s growing energy needs.

Last year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced a strategic plan to build a modular nuclear power plant in Armenia. He said that countries such as Russia, France, and South Korea are working on this new type of technology. Pashinyan also noted that the United States has made the most progress in developing these advanced nuclear systems.

Armenia’s commitment to modernizing its nuclear power capabilities shows a careful and forward-looking energy policy. By combining international cooperation with the latest technologies, Armenia aims to provide clean, safe, and reliable electricity for its people. This $3.4 million simulator launch is a clear example of how Armenia is moving ahead in nuclear energy with the support of its global partners.
