55 Armenians Still Held Captive in Baku, Azerbaijan Acknowledges Only 23
According to a senior law enforcement official, while Azerbaijan has admitted to holding captive only 23 Armenians, Armenia asserts that a total of 55 individuals from its nation are currently being held captive in Azerbaijan.
Argishti Kyaramyan, the Head of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, revealed to First Channel News that Azerbaijan has officially acknowledged the captivity of 23 Armenians. However, Kyaramyan emphasized that Armenia has evidence indicating the forced disappearance of an additional 32 individuals following the conclusion of the 2020 war.
"At this moment, Azerbaijan has confirmed the captivity of 23 compatriots, among whom 17 were captured as a result of the aggression in 2023. We possess substantial evidence regarding the forced disappearance of 32 persons after the 44-day war, which has been presented to supranational organizations," stated Kyaramyan.
Moreover, Kyaramyan highlighted that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has issued interim measures pertaining to 22 of the prisoners. Despite this, Azerbaijan refutes the claim that these individuals are being held captive.
