Armenia and U.S. Launch Border Security Partnership Under ‘Crossroads of Peace’ Initiative

Armenian government has agreed to partner with the United States in a new security initiative in the name of protecting its borders. From September 29 to October 11, a team from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is working with the Armenian Border Guard (ABG). The goal of the collaboration is to assess Armenia’s border security capabilities and identify areas that need improvement.

The U.S. embassy in Armenia explained that this process, called the Capability Gap Analysis Process (CGAP), is a proven method to strengthen border security. It helps countries find weaknesses, plan improvements, and make strategic investments to protect their borders.

This partnership is part of the broader ‘Crossroads of Peace’ Initiative. According to the U.S. embassy, the initiative was signed on August 8 at the White House by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The initiative focuses on building Armenia’s capacity to defend its borders and maintain security in a region threatened by Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression.

The timing of this cooperation is significant. Azerbaijan continues to pose a serious threat to Armenia and the people of Artsakh. In recent years, Baku has violated international agreements, carried out military provocations, and blocked peaceful dialogue.
