Armenia's Green Initiative: 7,400 Electric Cars Set to Enter Country at Zero Customs Cost
Updated: Jan 2
During a Cabinet session on Thursday, the Armenian government unveiled a decision to introduce a tariff exemption for electric vehicle imports and ratified the corresponding import process.
Under the proposed draft decision, a tariff privilege has been outlined for the importation of 7,400 electric vehicles into Armenia in 2024, allowing a 0% customs duty. This condition extends to both individuals and legal entities engaged in the importation process.
The rationale behind this decision was explained in the draft, which highlighted an agreement established at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council. This agreement paves the way for a two-year extension, granting Armenia an import tariff quota of 8,000 electric vehicles annually for the years 2024 and 2025.
Moreover, for the remaining 600 electric cars, a strategic reserve is proposed. This reserve will be secured directly from manufacturers and imports based on dealership or distributor contracts, serving as a safeguard for official representatives.
This initiative stands as a progressive step towards encouraging and facilitating the influx of electric vehicles into the Armenian market, aligning with broader sustainability and environmental goals while promoting the adoption of eco-friendly transport options across the nation.
