Armenian cross-country skier Mikayel Mikayelyan competed on the fourth competition day of the 25th Winter Olympic Games, taking part in the men’s 20-kilometer skiathlon event, which combines classical and freestyle techniques.
The race included 73 athletes from around the world and was one of the most physically demanding events on the Olympic schedule. Mikayelyan finished in 48th place with a time of 51 minutes and 06 seconds. He had started the race in 58th position and ended 4 minutes and 55 seconds behind the Olympic champion.
Skiathlon races require athletes to switch styles halfway through the course, testing both technical skill and endurance. Mikayelyan completed the full distance and continued Armenia’s presence in Olympic cross-country skiing competition.
The gold medal was won by Johannes Klaebo of Norway, who posted a winning time of 46 minutes and 11 seconds. France’s Mathis Desloges captured the silver medal with a result of 46 minutes and 13 seconds. Bronze went to another Norwegian skier, Martin Nyenget, who also crossed the line in 46 minutes and 13 seconds.
The men’s 20-kilometer skiathlon was one of the main events of the day, with tight competition at the front and only seconds separating the medalists. Mikayelyan’s performance placed him in the middle of a strong international field as Armenia continues its participation at the Winter Games.
