Armenia's Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan Addresses OSCE on Regional Peace and Stability

Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of Armenia's Security Council, delivered an address at the 21st Autumn Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Yerevan. In his speech, he emphasized the crucial role of unity and international cooperation in addressing contemporary global challenges, particularly focusing on security issues affecting Armenia and the broader European region.


Grigoryan commenced by expressing gratitude for the conference being held in Armenia, highlighting the nation's commitment to nurturing values upheld by the OSCE and fostering cooperation among member states.


Acknowledging the rapid changes in the globalized world and their impact on regional security, Grigoryan stressed the significance of collective efforts and dialogues to tackle multifaceted security challenges effectively. He highlighted Armenia's ongoing democratization process, which has bolstered state institutions and increased societal resilience while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.


The Secretary reiterated Armenia's commitment to democracy despite the challenges it faces. Grigoryan urged the international community to continue supporting Armenia's path towards democratization.


Regarding regional peace, Grigoryan emphasized Armenia's dedication to achieving peace and stability in the region. He expressed Armenia's interest in a potential peace agreement with Azerbaijan, highlighting unfortunate recent events involving attacks on Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the subsequent displacement and ethnic cleansing of Armenians from their indigenous homeland.


Moreover, he outlined Armenia's commitment to the Alma-Ata declaration and efforts towards border delimitation, stressing the importance of recognizing each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty to achieve lasting peace.


The Secretary also presented Armenia's vision for regional connectivity through initiatives like the "Crossroads of Peace" project, aimed at fostering economic and social benefits for the wider region by promoting inclusive cross-border connectivity.


Grigoryan concluded by emphasizing the multifaceted nature of security, extending appreciation to the OSCE for its continuous efforts in addressing humanitarian issues and supporting democratic governance worldwide. He called for collective action in addressing challenges ranging from terrorism to climate change, women's empowerment, and youth development for a better future.
