Armenia Selected for First-Ever Venice Film Festival Locations Market

Armenia has been selected as one of only 11 countries invited to participate in the first-ever VPB Locations Market, a new international film industry platform debuting during the 83rd Venice International Film Festival this September.

The country will be represented exclusively by the Pan-Armenian Federation of Film Producers, which has been granted the right to showcase Armenia’s filming locations, production services and investment opportunities to some of the world’s leading producers, studios and location managers.

The VPB Locations Market will take place Sept. 7-8 as part of the Venice Production Bridge, the festival’s industry program that runs from Sept. 3-9 at Hotel Excelsior on the Lido and Lazaretto Vecchio in Venice. The new initiative is designed to connect filmmakers with countries seeking to attract international productions by highlighting filming destinations, financial incentives and local production infrastructure.

For its inaugural edition, organizers selected only 11 participating countries: Armenia, Belgium, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and Uzbekistan.

During the event, the Pan-Armenian Federation of Film Producers will present its “Cinema Alliance” initiative while promoting Armenia as a destination for international film productions. The presentation will also include the ongoing construction of the Jesus Christ statue on Mount Hatis, which the federation says is expected to become a major tourism landmark and raise Armenia’s international profile.

A conference titled “What’s New in Film Incentives?” will also be held on Sept. 7, bringing together industry professionals to discuss the latest government programs and financial incentives aimed at attracting film productions around the world.

The federation said the invitation is an opportunity to strengthen Armenia’s position in the global film industry by introducing international decision-makers to the country’s landscapes, production capabilities and growing potential as a filming destination.
