Armenia to Bring Three Seriously Ill Gaza Children for Medical Treatment

Armenia will bring three seriously ill children from the Gaza Strip to the country for medical treatment under a government-funded humanitarian program approved Thursday.

The children will be treated at Armenian medical facilities, according to the government. Each will be allowed to travel with one accompanying family member.

The government allocated 16.7 million drams, about $43,000, from its reserve fund to the Health Ministry to support the effort.

Armenian officials had initially explored receiving up to 10 children from Gaza. The Health Ministry has been working with the Foreign Ministry and the World Health Organization to coordinate their transfer and determine which patients can receive the care they need in Armenia.

Eleven cases were reviewed as part of that process. After assessing the children’s medical needs, Armenian health authorities determined that seven could be treated in the country.

Families of three of those children agreed to travel to Armenia under the conditions offered, including the limit of one accompanying person for each patient.

The government decision did not provide an arrival date or identify the hospitals where the children will be treated.
