Armenia Welcomed 2.3 Million Tourists in 2023, Mainly from Russia, Georgia, and Iran
In 2023, Armenia welcomed 2.3 million tourists, as reported by Sisian Boghossian, who heads the Tourism Committee under the Ministry of Economy. This marked a significant increase of almost 30% compared to 2019 and nearly 39% compared to 2022.
Boghossian highlighted that Russia contributed the most visitors, accounting for 50% of the total tourists. Following closely were tourists from Georgia and Iran, with the Armenian diaspora from the United States also among the significant numbers.
Lately, there has been a rising number of tourists from India arriving via Dubai, adding to Armenia's diverse visitor profile. Boghossian also mentioned that traditional markets like Germany and France remain crucial, while China has secured a spot among the top ten countries sending tourists to Armenia.
"The number of US Diaspora Armenian tourists has been fairly consistent over the last few years. However, there is a great opportunity for more to continue discovering their roots and all that Armenia has to offer in culture, nature, wine, and adventure tourism.
Considering the large community in the US, under 60k visitors is a very small percentage. I hope 2024 will be the year that more consider visiting and reconnecting with their homeland," Boghossian told The Armenian Report.
This surge in tourism signals Armenia's growing popularity as a tourist destination, with diverse attractions drawing visitors from various corners of the world.
