Armenian Chess Players Win Three Gold and Two Bronze Medals at European Youth Championship
Armenian chess players achieved remarkable success at the European Youth Rapid and Blitz Championship 2024, held in Prague, Czech Republic. The Armenian team brought home three gold medals and two bronze medals, showcasing their talent and dedication on the international stage.
The championship featured a series of rapid and blitz chess tournaments across different age groups. Armenian players excelled in these competitions, earning top honors in several categories.
- FIDE Master (FM) Aleks Sahakyan was crowned the European U18 Rapid Chess Champion. Sahakyan's strategic skills and quick decision-making were evident as he outpaced his competitors to secure the gold medal.

- Sona Krkyasharyan achieved the title of European G14 Blitz Chess Champion. Krkyasharyan's fast-paced play and tactical skills earned her top place in the blitz event, demonstrating her exceptional chess abilities.
- Sofia Baghramyan won two medals in the G8 category. She became the European G8 Blitz Chess Champion and also secured a bronze medal in the European G8 Rapid Chess Championship. Baghramyan's performances in both formats shows her versatility and skill.
Team Achievement
In addition to their individual successes, the Armenian team made a huge impact in the team events. The Armenian team, consisting of Davit Melkonyan, Ashot Avetisyan, Armen Vardanyan, and Slava Konjoryan, earned a bronze medal in the European U10 Team Rapid Chess Championship. Their collective effort and teamwork were crucial in securing this prestigious position.
Delegation Leadership
The Armenian delegation was led by FIDE Master (FM) Tigran Gasparian, whose guidance and support were instrumental in the team’s achievements. Gasparian’s leadership helped the players prepare effectively and perform at their best during the championship.
