Bronze Statue of Goddess Anahit to be Displayed in Armenia Starting September
The head and hand of the renowned bronze statue of Goddess Anahit will be showcased in Yerevan starting September 21. This exhibition is a collaborative effort between the British Museum and the History Museum of Armenia.
This year marks two significant anniversaries: the 105th anniversary of the History Museum of Armenia and the 160th birthday of its founder, renowned ethnographer Yervand Lalayan. The History Museum of Armenia is one of the most active cultural institutions in the country, known for its international exhibition collaborations. It has partnered with prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, the Louvre Museum in France, the British Museum in Great Britain, the National Museum of the Czech Republic, and the Doge’s Palace in Venice, Italy.
Traditionally, artifacts from the museum’s collection are displayed in esteemed museums worldwide as part of joint exhibitions. These collaborations generate significant interest in Armenia's rich historical and cultural heritage and raise global awareness about the country.
However, the History Museum of Armenia has yet to gain experience in hosting valuable exhibits from prestigious international museums. Introducing such exhibits to visitors in Armenia should become a crucial and standard practice for the country’s primary museum.
The exhibition, titled "Mother Goddess: From Anahit to Mariam," will be held at the History Museum of Armenia. It will feature the head and hand of the bronze statue found in Satala, attributed to Goddess Anahit, along with archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, and art exhibits related to the theme of motherhood from the museum's collection.
