Every Armenian Can Join Installation of World’s Tallest Jesus Statue on Mount Hatis

Today in Yerevan, the upcoming steps for the installation of the Jesus statue were presented. The Armenian Report attended the unveiling of the website www.jesuschristarmenia.com, where details of the plan to place the world’s largest statue of Jesus on Mount Hatis were introduced.

The construction of a massive statue of Jesus Christ is underway on the heights of Mount Hatis in Armenia. The project, led by businessman and philanthropist Gagik Tsarukyan, is expected to create the tallest statue of Jesus Christ in the world.

According to Tsarukyan, the statue has already been completed and is made of four large parts. The figure of Christ is 33 meters tall (108 feet), and with its pedestal, the entire structure will reach 101 meters (331 feet). That would make it taller than any existing statue of Jesus worldwide.

To encourage public involvement, an information office has been opened and a call for volunteers issued. Registered participants will be able to climb Mount Hatis, observe the process and take part in the installation beginning Sept. 26. Tsarukyan said many people have already expressed interest through letters and phone calls, asking how they could contribute.

The chosen location on Mount Hatis, he said, holds special significance. He and his son personally selected the site, describing it as a place of beauty and inspiration.

“From there you can see all of Yerevan. There is soul, there is breath, when you climb up there. If you go up once, it’s impossible not to want to go every week to see that beauty,” Tsarukyan said.

Although the project has faced criticism, Tsarukyan stressed he is not offended by those who oppose it. Instead, he expressed confidence that time will prove its value.

“Although there has been criticism of the project, I do not take offense at those who criticize. I am confident that time will show how good this initiative is,” he said.

The date of the statue’s official unveiling has not yet been set, but construction work is actively progressing on the mountaintop.

Former National Assembly member Arman Abovyan also commented on the project in an interview with The Armenian Report.

“Besides the fact that the installation of the statue of Jesus is a precedent on a global level, since it is the greatest symbol of the most important part of Christianity, yes, Mr. Tsarukyan hopes that the most influential, the largest, the strongest statue of Jesus should be placed in the country, in the nation, which was the first to adopt Christianity,” he said.

Once completed, the monument is expected not only to hold religious and cultural significance but also to become a major attraction for visitors from around the world.
