Former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian Takes Lead in Artsakh Repatriation Commission
Armenia's former Foreign Minister, Vartan Oskanian, has taken new a role in spearheading a commission dedicated to facilitating the collective repatriation of the Artsakh people and safeguarding their fundamental rights. Oskanian announced his acceptance of the commission members' proposal to coordinate its activities in a statement on Thursday.
The commission, in collaboration with major political forces from Nagorno-Karabakh, has formed the Committee for the Defense of the Right to Collective Repatriation of the people of Artsakh and their other fundamental rights. Oskanian expressed his commitment to overseeing the committee's activities, emphasizing its primary mission to advocate for and pursue the collective repatriation of the Artsakh people with international guarantees, ensuring their safe, secure, and dignified resettlement in their homeland.
Oskanian stated, "The commission's key task will be to advocate and ensure the collective repatriation of the people of Artsakh under international guarantees and their right to live safely and with dignity in their homeland." He believes that addressing this issue is integral to establishing genuine peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing that lasting peace in the region is unattainable when a segment of the Armenian people is forcefully uprooted from its homeland.
The former FM contends that a balanced solution, including the restoration of the rights of the people of Artsakh, is essential for enduring and stable peace. He envisions a resolution that goes beyond coerced notions of "stability" and contributes to the establishment of a genuine and lasting peace between the nations.
Oskanian, in his role as overseer of the committee's activities, will collaborate with committee members and major political forces from Nagorno-Karabakh. Further details about the committee's activities, members, and plans will be shared in the coming days.
This initiative by Vartan Oskanian reflects a dedication to addressing the humanitarian concerns of the Artsakh people and fostering a comprehensive solution that contributes to lasting peace in the region.
