Macron Sings Aznavour’s “La Bohème” in Yerevan as Pashinyan Plays Drums at State Dinner

French President Emmanuel Macron took to the microphone at a state dinner in Yerevan on Monday, with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accompanying him on the drums. A video shared on social media shows Nikol Pashinyan playing the drums, while Emmanuel Macron is singing, and jazz musician Vahagn Hayrapetyan is playing the piano. The video quickly gained attention online, showing an informal and cultural moment involving the leaders and the well-known musician.

During the performance, Emmanuel Macron sang “La Bohème” by legendary Charles Aznavour. The song reflects on the youth of a struggling painter in Paris and portrays his difficult yet passionate life as a struggling artist, full of hunger, love, and creativity, while saying goodbye to that time in his life.

The scene comes during an official visit by the French president to Armenia, where several high-level meetings and events are taking place in Yerevan. The presence of the French leader has been linked to ongoing political discussions as well as participation in regional gatherings.

It should be noted that earlier in the evening, a state dinner was hosted at the Presidential Residence in honor of Emmanuel Macron. The event was organized on behalf of Vahagn Khachaturyan and Nikol Pashinyan.

The dinner was part of the official program marking the French president’s visit to Armenia, reflecting diplomatic ties between the two countries. The circulating video offers a glimpse into a lighter moment following formal engagements during the visit.
