New Film Based on Monte Melkonian’s Life to Premiere in November

A new film about the life of Monte Melkonian, one of the best-known Armenian commanders of the first Artsakh War, is set to premiere in theaters this November.

“Monte,” produced by Genetic Production, traces Melkonian’s life and his involvement in the war. The production says the film is based entirely on real events.

Vladimir Msryan stars as Melkonian, an Armenian-American revolutionary and military commander who became a national hero in Armenia after his death in 1993. Hripsime Nahapetyan portrays his wife, Seda.

The cast also includes Khoren Levonyan as Vazgen Sargsyan, a major figure in Armenia’s military and political life during and after the war. Levonyan has portrayed Sargsyan on screen before.

The project is part of Genetic Production’s series of films centered on prominent figures in Armenian history. The company says it hopes to use their stories to highlight the resilience and fighting spirit of Armenians.

Producer Nono Sargsyan has offered glimpses of the production through photographs from the set, including images of the actors in character.

“The past and the present, blended together. When you are stunned and time and reality truly merge. A very valuable photo for me. My heroes,” Sargsyan wrote alongside the photos.

The film is expected to hit the big screen in November.
