Pashinyan Meets Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV during his official visit to the Holy See. The meeting took place following Pashinyan’s participation in the canonization ceremony of Archbishop Ignatius Maloyan and six other blesseds, held at St. Peter’s Square.
The Pope welcomed the Armenian leader to the Vatican and expressed his appreciation for Armenia’s presence at the historic religious event. He emphasized the deep spiritual and cultural ties between the Holy See and Armenia, noting the significant contribution of the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice in nurturing these long-standing relations.
Prime Minister Pashinyan congratulated Pope Leo XIV on his election as head of the Catholic Church and wished him strength and success in leading his sacred mission. The Armenian leader expressed confidence that the relationship between Armenia and the Vatican would continue to develop under the Pope’s guidance. He also stressed the importance of maintaining open dialogue and mutual understanding on issues of shared concern.

The meeting also focused on regional developments and peace efforts in the South Caucasus. Both sides discussed the ongoing process of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the importance of humanitarian issues in the post-conflict period.
His Holiness Pope Leo XIV congratulated both nations on the progress achieved and voiced hope that lasting peace would pave the way for a new era of cooperation and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Pashinyan reaffirmed his government’s firm commitment to the peace agenda, pointing out that Armenia remains dedicated to ensuring a secure, prosperous, and sustainable future for its people and for the region as a whole.
