Pro-Azerbaijan Rep. Randy Fine Faces Backlash After Saying Armenians Should Not Serve in Congress

U.S. Representative Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida, is facing strong criticism after making a statement widely condemned as discriminatory. He said, "We don't want Armenians to be able to serve in Congress." The comment has triggered strong reactions from Armenian American groups, civil rights advocates, and political observers across the United States.

Critics argue that the statement directly challenges the principles of equality and representation that are central to American democracy. Armenian Americans have a long history of involvement in public service, including roles in local, state, and federal government. Many see the remark as an attempt to exclude an entire ethnic group from participating in political life.

Community leaders and advocacy organizations quickly responded, highlighting concerns about the normalization of such rhetoric. Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America, strongly criticized the statement.

"Randy Fine's racist rant targeting Armenians comes as no surprise - after all, he's backing a bill to arm and abet Azerbaijan, a genocidal dictatorship fresh off its ethnic cleansing of 150,000 Armenian Christians," said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. "This hate-filled bigot has no place in Congress."

The controversy has also led to increased calls for accountability. Some are urging Rep. Fine to clarify or withdraw his statement, while others are calling on congressional leadership to address the broader issue of discriminatory language in government institutions.

Observers note that targeting any ethnic or religious group in this way raises serious constitutional and civil rights concerns. The United States has long emphasized pluralism and equal opportunity as core values, and statements suggesting exclusion from public office are seen as undermining those principles.

The Armenian Report has contacted Armenian American Dan Bilzerian for conment, who is running against the Florida congressman.
