Sofia Nersesyan to Represent Ukraine at Junior Eurovision 2025 in Tbilisi

Ukrainian-Armenian Sofia Nersesyan has been chosen to represent Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025 after winning the country’s national selection. The international competition will take place on December 13 in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Sofia’s song, Motanka, draws inspiration from one of Ukraine’s most symbolic protective charms, the Motanka doll. The song carries deep themes of care, protection, and resilience. It was written by Svitlana Tarabarova and arranged by Oleksandr Sosin. 

According to Ukrainian legend, the threads of a Motanka doll begin to glow when a child is in danger, symbolizing protection and hope. This symbolism gives the song a powerful emotional meaning, especially for children living through the ongoing war in Ukraine.

In the national selection, Sofia earned a total of 11 points — 6 from the public vote and 5 from the jury — making her the overall winner. She ranked second with the jury but gained strong support from the audience, which helped her secure victory. Other finalists included Likeriya Chyrva, Olga Nesterko, Zlata Ivaniv and Vladyslav Vasitsky, Vsevolod Skrima, and Angelina Glogus.

Sofia is also known for her volunteer and charitable activities, earning recognition among young Ukrainians for her compassion and community spirit.

This year’s Junior Eurovision in Tbilisi will feature 18 participating countries. The stage design is inspired by Georgia’s mountain landscapes and traditional drums, reflecting the contest’s motto, “United by Music.” The theme celebrates unity, creativity, and the shared spirit of young performers from across Europe.

Armenia is also set to participate in Junior Eurovision 2025, but its representative has not been announced yet.
