Trump Says He Ended War Between ‘Aber-baijan’ and Albania, Instead of Azerbaijan and Armenia

US President Donald Trump said he ended a long conflict between “Aber-baijan” and Albania. He was talking about Azerbaijan and Armenia, but he got the names wrong.

Trump spoke during a talk with conservative host Mark Levin. He also said he had solved several other conflicts in the first six months of his second term.

Trump said the war lasted “34, 35 years” and that he tried to help the leaders through trade. “I said, ‘I’m not gonna do a trade deal if you guys are gonna fight’. It’s crazy,” he said.

Trump was referring to a meeting at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. At the meeting, both leaders signed a seven-point declaration to show progress toward peace. They also initialled a 17-part peace treaty. But the treaty has not been officially signed because Azerbaijan wants Armenia to change its constitution first.

The meeting also introduced a plan called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). This plan would connect Azerbaijan to the Nakhijevan region through Armenia. A US company would manage it. Some worry this plan could harm Armenia’s security.

Trump said the leaders ended the conflict at the meeting. “By the end of an hour, they were hugging each other and congratulating each other. It was beautiful to watch, actually,” he said.

For thousands of years, ethnic Armenians have been the sole indigenous inhabitants of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Yet recent military aggression by Azerbaijan, along with months-long blockades, has forced all Armenians to flee the region. Many believe the so-called peace deal is deeply unfair, as it is more of a tool for Azerbaijan to pressure and weaken Armenia than a genuine path to peace.
