Varazdat Lalayan Wins His Second World Championship Gold

Varazdat Lalayan became a two-time world champion at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Førde, Norway. Lalayan secured his victory with a total lift of 461 kg, proving once again his dominance in the sport and strengthening Armenia’s reputation as one of the leading nations in weightlifting.

The championship brought together some of the strongest athletes from around the world, and Armenia’s team delivered several noteworthy performances.

Garik Karapetyan earned a bronze medal in the snatch event by lifting 187 kg. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 220 kg, achieving a combined total of 407 kg, which placed him fourth overall at the competition. His performance showed consistency and determination, coming very close to the podium in total results.

Simon Martirosyan, another well-known Armenian lifter, faced a difficult competition. He was unable to complete lifts of 185 kg and 187 kg in the snatch and did not participate in the clean and jerk. Despite the setback, Martirosyan remains one of Armenia’s most accomplished athletes, with previous titles to his name.

In the women’s 77 kg B group, Anna Amroyan gave a strong performance, lifting 100 kg in the snatch and 130 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 230 kg. Her result placed her fourth in her group, reflecting the growing strength and potential of Armenia’s women’s weightlifting team.

Among the men’s competitors, Suren Grigoryan competed in the 88 kg category, lifting 160 kg in the snatch and finishing seventh in that event. His result demonstrated steady progress at the international level.

In the 71 kg category, Gor Sahakyan achieved a significant success by becoming the silver medalist in the snatch event. He lifted 150 kg and 154 kg, marking another strong showing for the Armenian team.
