Volodymyr Zelenskyy Attends Yerevan Summit, Focuses on Russia War Declining to Answer Question on Phosphorus Bomb Supply to Azerbaijan

Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the 8th Summit of the European Political Community held in Yerevan, where he addressed reporters and delivered remarks on the ongoing war involving Ukraine. The summit brought together leaders from across Europe at a time of continued regional tension and uncertainty.

Upon arriving at the venue, Zelenskyy briefly spoke to journalists and responded to several questions. However, he refrained from answering a question related to the alleged supply of phosphorus bombs to Azerbaijan, which were reportedly used during the 2020 war in Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh. The Ukrainian president did not respond to follow-up questions on the issue and left the briefing area without comment.

The question referred to long-standing concerns in Armenia regarding the use of such weapons during the 44-day war in 2020. The issue remains sensitive, particularly for Armenians affected by the conflict, and continues to draw attention during high-level international meetings.

Later, during his speech at the opening of the summit, Zelenskyy focused on the current state of the war involving Ukraine and Russia. He said the coming months could play a critical role in shaping how the conflict develops. According to him, the summer period may determine whether Russia chooses to continue military escalation or shift toward diplomatic engagement.

"This summer will be the moment when Putin decides what to do next — whether to expand this war or move toward diplomatic paths. And we must push him in the direction of diplomacy,"

Zelenskyy stressed the importance of international efforts to guide Russia toward negotiations rather than further conflict. His remarks reflected broader concerns among European leaders about the direction of the war and the need for coordinated political pressure.

The European Political Community summit in Yerevan serves as a platform for leaders to discuss major political and security challenges facing the region. Zelenskyy’s presence highlighted Ukraine’s continued focus on securing international support while also navigating complex questions related to past conflicts in the South Caucasus.

As the summit continues, discussions are expected to center on security, diplomacy, and cooperation across Europe, with the war in Ukraine remaining one of the main topics on the agenda.
