Today we celebrate the 2,806th birthday of Erebuni-Yerevan—what an incredible, long, rich history our city has! Erebuni Fortress was founded way back in 782 BC by King Argishti I.
It's an Urartian fortified(forty-fied) city that sits on top of Arin Berd hill, 1,017 meters above sea level, right here in modern-day Yerevan, Armenia.
This place was a powerhouse for the Urartian Kingdom – a major political, economic, and cultural center that helped protect the kingdom’s northern borders.
Imagine this: palaces, citadels, temples, and halls, all decked out with colorful frescoes of gods, animals, and daily life.
This fortress was more than just walls—it was the heart of Urartian life!

The name ‘Erebuni’ comes from the Urartian word ‘erebu-ni,’ which means ‘to capture’ or ‘victory,’ fitting for a city with such a rich history.
And even after all these centuries, despite invasions, Erebuni lived on and evolved into Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
Today, the legacy of Erebuni is kept alive through the Erebuni Museum of History, which opened in 1968 on Yerevan’s 2,750th birthday.

So, here is to Erebuni-Yerevan—2,806 years of history, strength, and pride!
