Armenia’s centuries-old manuscript tradition took center stage in Spain, where thousands of visitors explored some of the nation’s most treasured historical works before the collection returned home to Yerevan.

The manuscripts, displayed at the National Library of Spain as part of the exhibition Along the Paths of the Spiritual Map: The Art of Armenian Manuscripts, have now been returned to the Matenadaran following the exhibition’s conclusion.
The Matenadaran said the exhibition drew about 13,000 visitors during its relatively short run, an unusually high turnout for a single-gallery display. The institution said the response reflected growing international interest in Armenia’s manuscript heritage.

The exhibition brought together remarkable examples of Armenian manuscript art, offering visitors a window into the country’s centuries-old spiritual, cultural and artistic traditions preserved in the Matenadaran’s collections.
The Matenadaran said it will continue expanding the international presence of its collections through future exhibitions abroad, giving more people around the world the opportunity to discover Armenia’s documentary heritage.
