A total of 175 Russian citizens evacuated from Iran arrived in Armenia on April 6 and were later flown to Moscow on a special flight from Yerevan, as evacuation efforts continue due to rising tensions in the region.
The group entered Armenia through the Nurduz–Agarak border checkpoint before continuing their journey home.
The evacuees were employees of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Their relocation is part of a broader effort to move foreign nationals out of Iran as the security situation remains unstable. Armenia has become an important transit route for these evacuations due to its geographic position and functioning border crossing with Iran.
According to a statement by the Russian Embassy in Armenia, this group is part of a larger evacuation process that has taken place over recent weeks. The embassy reported that, since the start of the U.S.-Israeli aggression against Iran, a total of 509 Russian citizens have returned to Russia through Armenia.
The embassy noted that the evacuation operations have been carried out through coordination between Russian diplomatic services and Armenian authorities. This cooperation has allowed for the safe and organized movement of people across the border and onward to Yerevan’s airport for departure flights.
In its statement, the Russian diplomatic mission expressed appreciation to the Armenian side for its role in the process. It highlighted the “kind attitude” and efficient handling of entry procedures for employees of Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear corporation.
Armenia has played a growing role in regional evacuation efforts since the escalation began, serving as a key land route for those leaving Iran. The continued use of the Nurduz–Agarak crossing shows its importance in maintaining humanitarian and logistical access during a time of heightened uncertainty in the region.
The escalating situation has also drawn global political reactions. On April 7, Donald Trump posted a message on Truth Social warning of potentially historic consequences.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!” Trump wrote.
His comments reflect the growing international attention on developments in Iran, as evacuations continue and concerns mount over the direction of the conflict.
