Second Armenian Citizen Returns From Iran With Help of Armenia’s Embassy in Tehran

A second Armenian citizen has returned to Armenia from Iran with the assistance of Armenia’s diplomatic mission in Tehran, as regional tensions continue following the outbreak of large-scale military conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

According to Armenia’s Embassy in Iran, the citizen arrived in Armenia on March 9 with the support of the embassy. Armenian diplomats in Tehran have been actively assisting citizens during the ongoing developments in the region.

The embassy reported that it receives a significant number of phone calls every day from people seeking information. On average, around 20 to 25 calls are received daily, most of them related to questions about crossing the Armenia–Iran border. Despite the regional instability, officials say that the border crossings between the two countries are continuing to operate normally in both directions.

“Due to communication restrictions, the Embassy of Armenia in Iran continues to assist in transmitting information about Armenians in Iran to their relatives.

There is currently no information indicating that Armenian citizens are among those killed as a result of the developments in Iran.

Foreign citizens have also continued to contact the embassy seeking information about the possibility of entering the Republic of Armenia. They are being provided with appropriate explanations and necessary guidance.

At the same time, the embassy continues to provide the necessary assistance to diplomats accredited in Iran from several diplomatic missions and their family members in facilitating their return through the territory of Armenia,” the statement said.

The Armenian Embassy’s work comes as the security situation in the Middle East has rapidly deteriorated. On February 28, Israel and the United States launched a large-scale military attack against Iran. On the first day of the attack, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed.

The conflict has expanded beyond Iran’s borders. Military operations now involve several Arab countries of the Persian Gulf. In response to the strikes, Iran has launched attacks on U.S. military bases located across the region as well as targets in Israel. Israel has also carried out military strikes against Lebanon.

Amid the growing regional crisis, Armenia’s diplomatic mission in Tehran continues to monitor the situation and provide assistance to Armenian citizens, foreign nationals, and diplomatic personnel seeking information or safe routes through Armenia.
