Source Inside Iran Warns of Possible Violent Attack as People Flee Tehran and Borders Begin Closing

The Armenian Report received information from a source inside Iran who said they were warned about a possible violent attack in the coming days. The source told The Armenian Report that people are leaving Tehran and moving to other cities they believe are safer.

The information shared with The Armenian Report suggests that fear and uncertainty are growing among civilians. According to the source, the warning has pushed some people to leave the capital quickly. The source did not provide details about who made the warning or what the possible target might be, but said the situation feels serious and urgent.

The same source also reported that many civilians in Iran currently have no Internet access. The source also described border closures involving Iran and several neighboring countries. According to the information shared with The Armenian Report, Azerbaijan has closed its border with Iran from the Azerbaijani side. The source also reported that the Turkey–Iran border has been closed from the Iranian side.

In addition, information was shared about the Armenia–Iran border. The Azatutyun news outlet is in Agarak, and according to them, the Armenia–Iran border is also closed from the Iranian side. Agarak is one of the key crossing points between Armenia and Iran, and any closure could affect travel and trade.

According to reports citing Armenia’s State Revenue Committee, Iranian authorities said the border crossing was closed to individual travelers early Wednesday due to technical problems on the Iranian side. Officials said there was a disruption in automated control systems at the Iranian checkpoint at the only land border crossing between Armenia and Iran.

Officials at the Armenian checkpoint near Agarak also suggested that their Iranian counterparts may be dealing with communication issues. The disruption comes as the region faces growing tensions and ongoing military strikes against Iran.

Local residents have also reported large numbers of people waiting near the crossing. One Agarak resident who regularly travels to Iran told reporters that hundreds of people were gathered on the Iranian side of the border. However, there have been no clear signs of large numbers of Iranian citizens trying to enter Armenia.

Some of the people who have crossed into Armenia in recent days are reportedly citizens of third countries. According to reports, 31 Russian nationals left Iran through Armenia after the conflict began.

Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, also previously said that earlier closures of the Armenia–Iran border were due to technical issues. A temporary 24-hour shutdown of the crossing was reported earlier in the week.

The disruption has also slowed cargo transportation between the two countries. A long line of mostly Iranian trucks has formed on the Armenian highway leading toward the border crossing. Despite the delays, Armenia’s State Revenue Committee said earlier this week that trade shipments between the two countries have not yet been significantly affected. Normally between 400 and 450 trucks cross the Armenia–Iran border every day.

Iran remains one of Armenia’s important trading partners. Trade between the two countries reached nearly $770 million last year. Iran also serves as a key transit route for Armenian trade with China and several Gulf countries.

At this time, the situation remains unclear and information is limited. If the reported closures continue, they could affect movement in and out of Iran through major crossings in the region. With limited communication and rising concern inside the country, many people are watching closely for signs of what may happen next.

The Armenian Report sent questions to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia about the reported border closure and whether there is a possibility that Armenian citizens or ethnic Armenians may be allowed to leave the country. At the time of publishing this article, no response had been received.
