Former Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan has announced that he is entering politics with the goal of uniting people and reforming the country’s political system. He shared the news through a short video on his Facebook page.
“I have dedicated my professional life to human rights work, but under the current circumstances, that alone is not enough. I am announcing my decision to use politics to unite people and advance the country, for the sake of true peace. This is a declaration not to play by the old rules, but to change those rules,” Tatoyan says in the video.
While Tatoyan did not specify whether he plans to form a new political party or what its name might be, his message made clear that he plans to bring change to Armenia’s current political landscape.
“We must work together to restore the broken political system and establish a state based on the rule of law, to build a country of opportunity where success depends on each person’s talent and effort, and a society united by justice rather than divided by conflicts,” Tatoyan said.
Tatoyan served as Armenia’s Human Rights Defender from 2016 to 2021, where he became widely known for his human rights advocacy, particularly during times of national crisis. Before that, he worked as Deputy Minister of Justice from 2013 to 2016. His entry into politics is a new stage in his public career and comes during growing public debate about leadership, governance, and unity in Armenia.
