Armenia Dominates 2024 U17 European Weightlifting Championships with 24 Medals
The 2024 European Weightlifting Championships for boys and girls under 17 concluded on June 23 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The Armenian team delivered an exceptional performance, achieving great success in both the men's and women's competitions.
The Armenian men's team secured an impressive total of 18 medals: 6 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze. Their outstanding performance earned them the top spot in the team standings.
- Valerik Movsisyan (89 kg) emerged as a two-time European U17 champion, solidifying his position as one of the leading young weightlifters in Europe.
- Hovhannes Hovhannisyan (61 kg) celebrated his first European gold, marking a significant milestone in his promising career.
The Armenian women's team also made a strong showing, winning a total of 6 medals: 1 silver and 5 bronze. This commendable effort placed them 11th in the team standings.
