Armenia’s Tigran Karapetyan Wins Gold, Sets Two European Records at Junior Weightlifting Championships

Armenia’s national team has earned its third gold medal at the European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships taking place in Durrës, Albania. Armenian weightlifter Tigran Karapetyan became the European champion in the 71 kg weight category after setting two new European records.


In the snatch event, Karapetyan successfully lifted 131 kg, 136 kg, and 145 kg, with the last lift setting a new European record. He took first place in this round. In the clean and jerk, Karapetyan lifted 166 kg, 172 kg, and 176 kg, again setting another European record and finishing first in that event as well.


With a combined total of 321 kg, Tigran Karapetyan was crowned European Junior Champion.


The team’s head coach is Melik Ghukasyan, the second coach is Davit Muradyan, and Karapetyan’s personal coach is Garun Khachatryan.


Another Armenian weightlifter, Narek Grigoryan, also achieved strong results in the same 71 kg category. In the snatch, he lifted 131 kg, 136 kg, and 143 kg, earning a silver medal in that discipline. During the clean and jerk, Grigoryan lifted 166 kg and 175 kg, setting a new European record and finishing second again.

With a total of 318 kg, Narek Grigoryan became the runner-up of the European Junior Championships.


Grigoryan’s personal coach is Mher Poghosyan, while the head and second coaches are the same — Melik Ghukasyan and Davit Muradyan.
