Armenia’s Yervand Mkrtchyan Wins Gold, Sets National Record at Balkan Track and Field Championships

Armenia delivered an impressive performance at the Balkan Athletics Championships held in Volos, Greece, on June 20–21, with distance runner Yervand Mkrtchyan capturing gold and setting a new national record.

Mkrtchyan won the men's 3,000-meter race in a time of 7:52.75, securing the championship title while also establishing a new Armenian record in the event. The achievement adds to a remarkable season for the Armenian athlete, who recently claimed victory in the 1,500-meter race at an international competition in France with a time of 3:38.99.

Armenia also celebrated a silver medal through Razmik Ghazaryan, who finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 16.20 meters.

The Armenian team at the Balkan Championships also featured Levon Aghasyan in the triple jump, Vahe Arzumanyan in the long jump, Aram Aramyan in the 400-meter hurdles, and Ellada Alaverdyan in the women's 800 meters.

The strong results shows the growing presence of Armenian athletics — as the country's athletes continue to achieve success against some of the region's top competitors.
