Armenia will experience a temporary halt in Russian gas deliveries later this month as part of planned maintenance in southern Russia. Gazprom Armenia announced that the supply will be suspended for ten days, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on September 16 and lasting until 9:00 a.m. on September 26.
The interruption is linked to scheduled work on the “North Caucasus–Transcaucasus” main gas pipeline in Russia’s Stavropol region. The pipeline, which carries natural gas from Russia into Armenia, is undergoing technical repairs and upgrades that require a complete shutdown of flows for the duration of the project.
While the suspension may sound alarming, Armenian authorities and Gazprom Armenia emphasized that consumers in the country will not face restrictions or shortages. Officials confirmed that Armenia has enough reserves to cover local needs during the shutdown. In addition, extra volumes of natural gas will be supplied from Iran to secure stable and reliable distribution across the country.
This temporary suspension shows Armenia’s heavy dependence on imported gas and the importance of maintaining alternative supply routes. The Russian Federation remains Armenia’s primary energy partner, but in recent years, Armenia has also relied on imports from Iran to diversify sources and ensure energy security.
