Armenia to Provide New Minefield Maps to Azerbaijan in Coming Days, Announces Armenia's NSS
Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) has announced the forthcoming provision of new minefield maps to the Azerbaijani side. The survey work, resumed among ex-servicemen of Nagorno-Karabakh, has led to the identification of eight new documents containing crucial information on minefields.
These documents are set to be transferred to Azerbaijan through established working channels in the coming days. The NSS also plans to provide copies of these documents to international partners as part of its ongoing commitment to international collaboration.
This initiative follows the earlier transfer of 972 minefield maps from Armenia to Azerbaijan on multiple occasions, including June 12, July 3, October 19, November 1, and November 29, 2021. The Armenia government, emphasizing its dedication to the peace agenda with Azerbaijan, made these transfers without preconditions.
Despite Armenia's unilateral humanitarian gestures, the Republic of Azerbaijan initiated an information campaign, accusing Armenia of providing inaccurate and incomplete maps. Armenia has consistently defended the quality of the maps, stating that there are no better alternatives at its disposal and that the transferred maps were obtained through Nagorno-Karabakh servicemen.
An agreement was established on December 7, 2023, between the office of the Prime Minister of Armenia and the administration of the President of Azerbaijan. This agreement aimed at taking steps to build trust between the two states. In alignment with this agreement, the NSS of Armenia has resumed survey work among former military personnel of Nagorno-Karabakh, leading to the identification of eight new documents containing minefield information.
The upcoming transmission of these minefield maps to the Azerbaijani side and the sharing of copies with international partners shows the Armenian government’s commitment to regional stability, trust-building, and collaborative efforts towards a peaceful future.
