Armenian Government to Install Cameras in Schools and Nearby Areas as Part of Fight Against Drugs
In a move to combat Armenia’s drug menace, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by Minister Vahe Ghazaryan, has announced the installation of cameras in schools and surrounding areas as part of a comprehensive strategy against narcotics. This initiative aims to enhance surveillance and deter illicit activities within educational institutions.
During a press conference, Minister Ghazaryan revealed that in a recent fight against drugs, law enforcement officials discovered a significant amount of narcotics—13 kg in total. The seizure included 5 kg of crystal, heroin, opium, and hashish.
Addressing the public, Minister Ghazaryan said the government is committed to intensifying the battle against drugs, emphasizing the need for a multifaceted approach that encompasses schools and the university system. As part of this strategy, the existing video and photo shooting electronic system, SNOC, will be upgraded this year.
The plan involves the installation of surveillance cameras not only in schools but also in nearby areas, creating a more comprehensive monitoring network. Minister Ghazaryan emphasized that this proactive measure will serve as a deterrent in the fight against drug-related activities within these crucial educational spaces.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted the intention to conduct testing on students if deemed necessary. This additional step aims to identify potential drug-related issues at an early stage, allowing for intervention and support where needed.
