As the world welcomes the New Year and Armenians prepare to celebrate Armenian Christmas on January 6, the Defense Ministry of Armenia invited The Armenian Report to visit servicemen who are currently on duty, guarding the country during the holiday season. Journalist Ani Khachatryan met with soldiers serving far from their families, many of whom will spend the holidays in uniform rather than at home.
During this visit, the servicemen shared personal reflections about service, homeland, family, and hope for the coming year. Their messages showed the emotional weight of military life, especially during a season traditionally centered on family gatherings and celebration. Despite the distance and the challenges, their words carried calm strength and belief in a peaceful future.
Junior Sergeant Hayk Gevorgyan spoke about his journey from Belarus to Armenia to serve his homeland. His decision shows the strong bond many Armenians abroad still feel toward their country. Adapting to military life was not easy at first, especially during the early training period, but over time he adjusted. Serving far from his parents has been difficult, yet his message focused on resilience, health, and hope. He expressed confidence that service will be completed and that soldiers will return home, even though the separation is not easy.
Junior Sergeant Davit Halajyan shared his understanding of what homeland truly means. For him, it begins with family and extends to the country as a whole. He emphasized that peace is the foundation for a good life and stability for everyone. His message centered on health, family unity, and the importance of loved ones standing together during difficult times.
Another serviceman, Edik Mikayelyan, marked an important moment in his military path after being promoted to junior sergeant. Just a day earlier he had been serving as a private, and the new rank represented the result of effort and commitment. He spoke about peace as the main reason soldiers remain on duty and expressed hopes for happiness and closeness with family. His words reflected both pride in service and a desire for a calm and secure homeland.
These holiday messages offer a glimpse into the daily reality of Armenian servicemen who continue their duties while much of the country prepares to celebrate. Their reflections show that military service is not only about discipline and responsibility, but also about personal sacrifice, emotional strength, and deep connection to family and country.
