Attorney Gets Through Armenian Police in Tavush, Describes Kirants Village as 'Completely Under Siege'
Attorney Arsen Babayan rushed to his client's side in Kirants village of Tavush province today, where citizens and journalists were stranded outside the village because the road to Kirants has been blocked off for nearly two days. However, Babayan was the only person who was able to gain access into Kirants village today. As he returned, he stopped to speak with reporters, including The Armenian Report.
On April 26, a clash between law enforcement officers and local residents erupted near a small grocery store in Kirants. The incident, which transpired next to the aforementioned store, drew attention to the surveillance cameras installed both inside and outside the property. The Investigative Committee of Armenia sought access to the recordings, prompting the store owner to assert his right to legal representation. Babayan promptly heeded the call, traveling from Yerevan to Tavush to stand by his client's side.
He discussed the initiated criminal procedure following the April 26 altercation, shedding light on the investigative operations and the seizure of surveillance footage from the scene. Babayan expressed concern over the roadblock imposed by authorities, condemning it as an infringement on civil liberties. He questioned the legality of the measures and criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the purported "special operation" justification.
The attorney remains faithful in his commitment to upholding justice and defending the rights of his client and the community at large. Yet, amidst the legal labyrinth and bureaucratic hurdles, the quest for truth and accountability persists, casting a shadow over the peace in the region.
According to officials, they had closed down the road to Kirants in Tavush due to the demining works which will concede more Armenian territories to Azerbaijan.
