Armenian Parliamentary Elections Officially Scheduled for June 7: Keep or Remove Pashinyan

President Vahagn Khachaturyan has signed a decree officially setting Armenia’s next regular National Assembly elections for June 7. This is the formal start of the election timeline and confirms earlier public statements by government officials about when the vote would take place.

The decree was published on the President’s official website and will take legal effect the day after its publication. With this step, the country has entered the final months before voters choose a new parliament.

The document refers to several articles of Armenia’s Constitution that regulate how and when parliamentary elections are held. Under Article 91, Part 1, regular elections must take place within a specific time window before the current National Assembly’s term ends. The Constitution states that voting should occur no earlier than 60 days and no later than 50 days before the legislature’s mandate expires. This rule is meant to ensure continuity in state institutions while allowing enough time for the political process to move forward in an orderly way.

The decree also points to Article 93 of the Constitution, which assigns the authority to call both regular and extraordinary parliamentary elections to the President of the Republic. By issuing this decree, Khachaturyan has exercised that constitutional role and set the official date for the upcoming vote.

In addition to constitutional provisions, the decree cites the Electoral Code, which further defines the procedure for calling elections. Article 103, Part 2 of the code states that “the President of the Republic issues a decree on calling regular National Assembly elections no later than 90 days before voting day.” By acting now, the President has met that legal requirement and ensured that the process follows the timetable established by law.

The announcement also confirms a prediction made last year by National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan. On June 7 of the previous year, Simonyan wrote on Telegram that the next parliamentary elections would take place exactly one year later, on June 7, 2026. With the signing of the decree, that date has now become official.

The June vote will determine the future makeup of Armenia’s legislature and shape the country’s political direction for the coming years. In the months ahead, political parties and alliances are expected to prepare their campaigns, select candidates, and present their platforms to voters across the country.

Election authorities will also begin technical preparations, including organizing polling stations, updating voter lists, and coordinating observation efforts. As the process unfolds, both domestic and international attention will focus on who the nation votes for a new Prime Minister. Will Pashinyan and his government remain?
