Azerbaijan Destroys Historic Eagle Monument in Stepanakert, Erasing Symbol of Artsakh's Armenian Cultural Heritage

The Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) State Council for the Protection of Cultural Heritage has reported the destruction of the iconic Eagle Monument in the Verin Park of Stepanakert, the capital of Azerbaijani-occupied Artsakh. This monument, a poignant symbol of Stepanakert residents' childhood, had stood as a testament to the region's rich Armenian cultural history since its construction during the Soviet era.

The Azerbaijani regime's demolition of the Eagle Monument has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the preservation of Artsakh's cultural heritage. The monument, with its historical significance deeply rooted in the memories of the local population, held a unique place as a cherished symbol for generations.

Artsakh's State Council for the Protection of Cultural Heritage has expressed alarm at this irreversible loss, highlighting the importance of safeguarding such landmarks that carry both cultural and emotional value. The destruction of the Eagle Monument not only erases a piece of Artsakh's past but also raises questions about the protection of cultural heritage under Azerbaijani occupation.
