Azerbaijani Forces Attack Armenian Military Convoy, Leaving One Dead and Two Wounded

Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire on a vehicle of the Republic of Armenia (RA) Armed Forces, leading to one casualty and two wounded Armenian servicemen. The attack took place while the vehicle was in the process of transporting provisions for personnel on duty at Armenian combat positions.

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:25pm local time on Monday when units from the armed forces of Azerbaijan targeted the vehicle with small arms fire. The vehicle was carrying essential food supplies for Armenian military positions located in the Kut village sector of Gegharkunik Province, as reported by the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Armenia.

The deceased has been identified as Aram Kocharyan, a dedicated member of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defence. The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia expressed profound sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, relatives, and colleagues of the fallen soldier.

Fortunately, the wounded servicemen are reported to be in stable condition, and their lives are not presently in immediate danger. Swiftly transported to a military hospital, they are under close supervision by medical professionals, ensuring they receive the necessary care and attention.

This incident has sparked international outrage, particularly due to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces' deliberate targeting of the ambulance that arrived at the scene, constituting a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. Deliberate attacks on medical units and personnel are strictly prohibited under international law, emphasizing the gravity of this violation.

The Armenian Ministry of Defence swiftly condemned the actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, labeling the attack as a flagrant breach of international protocols governing the conduct of armed forces during conflicts. Within Armenia, citizens have expressed their deep condolences and solidarity with the affected families, demonstrating a collective sense of mourning and unity in the face of this tragedy.

Internationally, the incident has prompted swift responses, with numerous nations and organizations urging Azerbaijan to exercise restraint and adhere to the existing ceasefire agreements. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the precarious situation at the border and underscores the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further loss of life.
