Azerbaijani Military Crosses Into Armenia, Stealing 260 Sheep
BREAKING NEWS: Armenian Villagers Accuse Azerbaijanis of Illegal Border Crossing and Sheep Heist
Armenian villagers from Aravus village in the Tegh community are reporting that Azerbaijani servicemen illegally crossed the border, making off with 260 sheep. The incident, unfolding at approximately 10 am local time, has sparked concerns and raised tensions in the region.
UPDATE: The sheep herder involved was a 16-year-old boy. According to reports, five Azerbaijani military personnel attempted to approach the boy amidst the hundreds of sheep, while the boy was on horseback. Swiftly reacting to the situation, the young herder managed to flee the area, saving some of the family sheep with him. The boy and his family vehemently deny any border crossing, insisting that both the boy and the sheep remained on sovereign Armenian territories throughout the entire incident.
Artur Grigoryan, informed by villagers, stated that Azerbaijanis took advantage of the situation to cross the border, emphasizing, "There was an order not to fire at the Bashi Bazouks." The incident unfolded near a ravine in front of the village, where the sheep were grazing in pastoral lands.
In an interview with The Armenian Report, Grigoryan provided further insight, detailing how Azerbaijani forces approached the border line, descended into a valley, and herded the sheep to their side. Despite pleas for intervention, nearby soldiers refrained from interfering, citing orders from militia leadership to avoid aggravating the situation.
Davit Ghulunts, head of the local community, informed The Armenian Report that the sheep were in the pasture during the incident. While an exact count is unavailable, he assured that the National Security Service and the Ministry of Defense are on-site, actively addressing the situation. Ghulunts stressed that such incidents had not been registered for a year.
Regarding the incident, Aram Torosyan, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Armenia, asserted, "No incident, ceasefire violation, even more so an infiltration attempt has taken place." Torosyan explained that authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the sheep crossing into Azerbaijani territory.
The story is developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
