Azerbaijani Serviceman Detained for Two Months After Crossing Into Armenia, Shooting Woman

An Armenian court has ordered Azerbaijani serviceman Nasimi Rahim Oglu Musayev held for two months as authorities investigate his alleged illegal crossing into Armenia and a shooting that seriously wounded a woman in the southern village of Shaki.
Armenia’s Investigative Committee announced the detention order Thursday, a day after Musayev was captured in the Syunik Province village following the shooting.
According to investigators, Musayev entered a home on Shaki’s 6th Street at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. After he was discovered inside, authorities say he fired his weapon, injuring a woman born in 1987.
Musayev fled after the shooting but was later found at another house on the same street and taken into custody.
The Prosecutor General’s Office said Thursday that Musayev has been charged with illegally crossing Armenia’s state border, smuggling a firearm, illegal possession and circulation of a firearm, violating the inviolability of a home and causing serious bodily injury.
Prosecutors have also opened an additional criminal case over the alleged illegal border crossing and firearms smuggling. That case has been joined with the main investigation into the Shaki shooting.
The case has drawn particular attention because Musayev is an active Azerbaijani serviceman and Shaki lies inside Armenia, near the country’s border with Azerbaijan.
