Bad Bunny Pays Tribute to Aznavour: Sampling 'Hier Encore' for His Chart-Topping Track 'MONACO'

Legendary singer-songwriter Charles Aznavour, whose soul-stirring melodies have resonated across generations, is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, thanks to a recent sample by global sensation Bad Bunny.



Aznavour's timeless classic, “Hier Encore,” he penned in 1964, has been given a fresh lease of life as it finds its way into the hearts of a new audience. The Armenian-French artist’s song has been expertly sampled by Bad Bunny in his latest track, “MONACO,” featured in his album “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana”, released on Friday, October 13. In a testament to its universal appeal, the music video for “MONACO” has already amassed an astonishing 5 million views on YouTube within hours of its release.


In a statement to The Armenian Report, The Aznavour Foundation, expressed their positive stance on the sampling, stating, “Charles Aznavour has always collaborated with young artists, liked to experiment, and had joint projects with artists of various genres, including rap artists. The attitude is very positive because all copyrights have been preserved, and the artist has received the right to sample.”



Adding to its newfound fame, “Hier Encore” has also found a home at the conclusion of the third season of “Lupin”, the Netflix series following the adventures of Assane Diop, a charming thief seeking justice for his father's death. The song’s poignant lyrics and Aznavour's emotive delivery provide a fitting backdrop to the series' dramatic conclusion, captivating viewers and further enhancing its cultural significance.
