Diplomatic Corps and International Organizations Visit Flood Disaster Zone in Armenia

On Friday, more than 40 representatives from the diplomatic corps and international organizations in Armenia visited the deadly flood disaster zone, accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan. This visit aimed to assess the damage and ongoing relief efforts in the affected areas.



The delegation was welcomed by Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, along with the Director of the Rescue Service and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Kamo Tsutsulyan. They provided a comprehensive briefing on the neighborhoods that suffered from the devastating floods, detailing the extent of the damage and the relief efforts underway.



Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan also shared an update on the situation via X, formerly known as Twitter. "Representatives of diplomatic corps in Armenia visiting Lori region to assess the situation caused by the devastating flood," he wrote.

The torrential rains have caused severe flooding in the northern Armenian provinces of Lori and Tavush, marking the worst flooding the country has experienced in decades. The swollen rivers have led to tragic outcomes, with at least four people losing their lives. The floods have caused significant infrastructural damage, including the collapse of a bridge across the Debed River in the town of Alaverdi.

Hundreds of residents have been evacuated from the flood-affected regions. The disaster has also led to widespread disruptions in essential services, including water, electricity, and gas. Moreover, transport connections with neighboring Georgia have been severely impacted, complicating relief and recovery operations.
