Golden Apricot Launches AI Filmmaking Program to Train Next Generation of Film Professionals

The Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival is embracing the next chapter of filmmaking with the launch of a new artificial intelligence-focused program aimed at helping film professionals navigate one of the industry's fastest-growing technological shifts.

Through its industry platform, GAIFF Pro, the festival has partnered with LUMIVERSE, a global collaboration network connecting Armenians worldwide, to introduce an intensive AI Filmmaking Workshop that will bring together filmmakers from across the region to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming the creative process.

The program, scheduled for July 13–15 in Yerevan, will offer participants hands-on experience with AI-powered filmmaking tools rather than traditional classroom-style instruction. Working under the guidance of AI specialists Vahan Setoyan and Lilit Barseghyan, participants will collaborate on the creation of a short film from script development through post-production using professional AI software. The completed project will be presented during a special industry screening on July 16 before accredited guests and international film professionals attending the festival.

Organizers say the initiative reflects a growing recognition that artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly influential force across the global entertainment sector.

“The AI workflow and projects made by AI are now an undeniable part of our industry,” said Nare Leone Ter-Gabrielyan, Head of GAIFF Pro Industry. “We shouldn’t ignore it; instead, we must find ways to incorporate it into the filmmaking process in ethical, practical ways. This workshop is designed to do exactly that, through direct, hands-on practice.”

AI expert Vahan Setoyan emphasized the rapid pace of technological change, noting that traditional educational systems often struggle to keep up with developments in the field.

The workshop is designed for established film professionals, including directors, producers, cinematographers, and editors with demonstrated industry experience.

Applications are open to participants from Armenia, Georgia, and Iran, with all sessions conducted in English.

The AI initiative forms part of a broader expansion of GAIFF Pro for its 2026 edition, which will run from July 13–17 in Yerevan. This year, the platform is also broadening its co-production market to include expanded cinema and new media projects, reflecting the growing convergence of technology, storytelling, and audiovisual art.
