Jennifer Lopez Replaces Snoop Dogg in Armenia’s “World Star’s Tour” This August

Jennifer Lopez will now perform in Armenia on August 3, instead of Snoop Dogg, following a recent decision by the Armenian government. During a cabinet meeting, officials approved substituting Snoop Dogg’s name with Jennifer Lopez in the “World Star’s Armenian Tour” music project. 

The government had originally allocated 2.318 billion Armenian Drams (about $6 million) to organize a Snoop Dogg concert in Yerevan. The show was scheduled for September 23, 2023, at Hrazdan Stadium but was first postponed to 2024 and then canceled.

Months before the announcement, Zhanna Andreasyan, Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, was asked about the Jennifer Lopez concert. She said, "At the moment, I have nothing to say on this topic, because there have been announcements, and the rest will be shown by the course of events." 

When asked if the state was involved in organizing the concert, she replied, “The state is not involved in the organization process from the beginning.” She added that the government’s policy is to encourage international artists to perform in Armenia, as this helps make the country “a more attractive platform and a tourist destination.” However, she declined to comment on details of the specific concert.

The government’s involvement in the Snoop Dogg concert included financial support given to the company “Doping Space,” which was responsible for organizing the event.

On February 4, 2024, the Competition Protection Commission closed an investigation related to the state funding allocated to Doping Space for the Snoop Dogg concert.

Before the concert was canceled, some costs were already spent and could not be recovered. This included the artist’s fee paid to Snoop Dogg. However, the rapper returned the money he had received for the canceled show.

The switch to Jennifer Lopez shows Armenia's goal to attract major international stars to the country.
