Lights of Yerevan’s Main Christmas Tree Lit in Republic Square

The lights of Yerevan’s main Christmas tree were officially turned on in Republic Square, celebrating one of the most important festive moments of the year for the capital. The ceremony brought together thousands of people, including local residents and tourists, who gathered in the central square to witness the celebration.

The lighting of the tree took place after the symbolic performance of the song «Brave heart» by Albert Armenakyan, a participant of Junior Eurovision. Immediately after the lights were turned on, a fireworks show lit up the night sky above Republic Square, adding to the festive atmosphere and drawing applause from the large crowd.

Before the main ceremony, a children’s musical performance was presented in the square. The show created a joyful and family-friendly mood and set the tone for the official start of Yerevan’s New Year celebrations.

This year, the budget allocated for Yerevan’s New Year celebrations and festive decorations amounts to 607 million 645 thousand drams ($1,592,000). The funds cover a wide range of activities and decorations across the city, with Republic Square remaining the main focal point of the celebrations.

An important update was also made to the city’s main Christmas tree. The branches and lighting of the tree, which were originally purchased in 2018, have been fully replaced for the first time. Higher-quality materials were used, and the new branches and lighting were supplied from the Russian Federation. The Yerevan Municipality spent a total of 50 million drams (131,738) on the purchase of these new components.

The lighting of the main Christmas tree officially starts the holiday season in Yerevan. In the coming weeks, Republic Square and other parts of the city are expected to host various festive events, welcoming residents and tourists alike into a bright and celebratory New Year atmosphere.
