Malkhas Amoyan Wins Fifth Straight European Gold Medal

Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler Malkhas Amoyan has once again confirmed his dominance on the European stage, winning his fifth consecutive gold medal at the European Wrestling Championships.

Competing in the 77 kg weight category at the tournament held in Tirana, Amoyan secured victory in the final against Georgian wrestler Ramaz Zoidze. The match ended with a 1:1 score, but Amoyan was declared the winner based on the criterion of the first point scored.

This final was a repeat of last year’s championship match, where Amoyan also defeated Zoidze, then with a score of 3:1. With this latest result, Amoyan has now won five European titles in a row, taking gold every year from 2022 through 2026 in his weight category.

Before reaching the final, Amoyan delivered a strong performance in the semifinal, where he faced Moldova’s Alexandru Gutu. He won that match with a 3:1 score, securing his place in the championship bout.

Amoyan entered the competition as one of Armenia’s top athletes. He is a bronze medalist of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and a two-time world champion. Over the years, he has consistently remained among the leading figures in Greco-Roman wrestling in Europe.

His latest victory in Tirana further strengthens his position as one of the most successful wrestlers in his category, marking an unbroken five-year run at the top of European competition.
