Armenian boxer Manvel Petrosyan has won the gold medal at the European Under-23 Boxing Championship taking place in Yerevan. Competing in the 63.5 kg weight category, Petrosyan faced Egor Kozorezov in the final match and secured victory with a 3:2 decision.
In the first round, Petrosyan showed strong confidence and control, landing accurate punches that gave him a clear advantage. The judges awarded him the round.
The second round was more intense, but Petrosyan maintained his dominance. All the judges unanimously gave the win to the Armenian boxer. From the stands, Boxing Federation of Armenia President Hovhannes Hovsepyan supported and guided Petrosyan during the bout.
In the third round, Petrosyan focused mostly on defense, responding with counterpunches when needed. Despite a close fight, the judges again gave the round to Petrosyan, finalizing his win. The Russian boxer and his fans expressed dissatisfaction with the judges’ decision.
With this result, Manvel Petrosyan became Armenia’s first male gold medalist at the ongoing European U-23 Championship in Yerevan.
Earlier in the day, Elida Kocharyan from Armenia’s women’s team also won a gold medal in the 60 kg weight category, defeating Russia’s Anastasia Alexeeva with a 5:0 score in the final.
