Over 60 EP Members Call for Sanctions Against Azerbaijani President Followinng Artsakh Attacks
A call for sanctions against President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, led by French Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Nathalie Loiseau, has gained significant momentum, garnering support from more than 60 members of the European Parliament. The initiative comes in response to concerns over Azerbaijan's actions in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and their impact on the Armenian population.
Loiseau took to her Twitter account, X, to declare the collective demand for European sanctions against the Aliyev regime. She stated, "More than 60 members of the European Parliament are following me to demand that Europe sanction the Ilham Aliyev regime for its offensive against the Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh."
In a united front, Loiseau and her fellow MEPs have formally submitted a request to the European Union's foreign policy service. Their appeal urges swift and decisive action to address the escalating situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, with a particular emphasis on halting ethnic cleansing activities targeting the Armenian population. The MEPs are also keen to prevent any further escalation that could potentially lead to a renewed conflict in the region.
The call for sanctions against President Aliyev underscores the European Parliament's growing concern about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and its commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of the affected populations.
