Police arrested four people after seizing 12 kilograms of marijuana during a vehicle chase on the Meghri-Agarak highway in Syunik province. The highway is located in southern Armenia, near the Iran-Armenia border, and is often used as a transit route for cross-border traffic.
While on patrol, officers saw a suspicious car and asked the driver to stop for a check. Instead of stopping, the driver tried to get away, followed by a short chase. The car, a Honda, was caught, but the driver ran on foot before police arrested him.
During the chase, one of the passengers threw several packages out of the car. Police found 12 packages, which weighed over 12 kilograms, containing smuggled marijuana.
Two passengers, a man and a woman, were arrested at the scene. Police later identified a suspected receiver of the packages and arrested this person the following day on the Yerevan-Yeraskh highway.
All four suspects are in jail and waiting for their trial. Police are still investigating the drug smuggling case.
