President of Cyprus Urges European Action for Forcibly Displaced Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has called on European legislators to address the pressing humanitarian needs of ethnic Armenians forcibly displaced from their indigenous homeland of Artsakh also known as Nagorno-Karabakh. Speaking at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, President Christodoulides emphasized the urgency of taking measures to provide both immediate aid and long-term solutions for the Armenian population affected by the recent humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The President expressed concern over the mass exodus of tens of thousands of Armenians from the region, highlighting the depth of the humanitarian crisis. He urged European legislators to mobilize and ensure the provision of urgent humanitarian assistance, emphasizing the importance of addressing the enduring challenges faced by the displaced ethnic Armenians.
President Christodoulides also drew attention to the growing and immediate needs of Armenia, resulting from the developments in September of the previous year. He stressed the significance of finding proper and adequate solutions to support Armenia during these challenging times.
The Cypriot President affirmed his country's support for the European Union-mediated peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Acknowledging the complexities of the regional dynamics, President Christodoulides highlighted the importance of diplomatic efforts to bring about lasting peace and stability.
